Prom, Dresses, and Modesty

I was recently informed about a homeschool prom that was going
to take place in Indianapolis. It looked like sooo much fun.
Instead of pairing off and doing the normal prom types of dances,
they were going to have group dances, such as the Virginia Reel and such,
and an Irish folk band was going to play the music.
I was pretty much planning on going but, alas, I can't.
It is going on at the same time as Summit.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
My sister is still thinking about going if she can find a friend to go with her.
So I guess I am just going to have to organize some type of dance
thing here where I live. This time not only for highschoolers,
but for all ages!
Anyways, I was looking online for some cheap prom dresses just for fun
the other day and found these beauties.
They were called "modest prom dresses" and only had these to choose from.
I think they are so much prettier than the "normal" prom dresses though,
and I would feel 100% more comfortable in these.
(they were NOT cheap though....figures)
So while we are on the topic of dresses and modesty, I have a question for you all.
How do you feel about wearing halters, spaghetti straps, or strapless dresses
for special occasions like a wedding, prom, or fancy party?
I have thought about this alot, and have argued with my mom
plenty about this issue. Tell me what you think.
Have a great weekend ya'll! I am going to the mall Saturday and soy muy feliz!

Modesty Advice

I have a question for ya'll. I have torn feelings about this topic. So, here goes...
What do you all think about spaghetti strap shirts? Are they modest or not? I understand how its not very modest...or fashionable... to have your bra straps hangin out all over the place. But if you took care of that problem, are they ok to wear or not? I would really appreciate your advice on this...so please comment!

Modesty Meagan pt 2

Pt. 2 The Mall I was standing at my locker when Amy approached. "I thought you were going to wear that skirt today." She leaned against the row of lockers and looked out into the hallways. I shrugged. "My mom wouldn't let me." Amy threw her head back and groaned. "Parents!" "What can you do?" I asked, gathering my books. Amy slammed my locker with a clang and followed me down the hall. I heard her black boots clip-clopping down on the tile floor. "I'll tell ya what you can do," she said. "We can go to the mall this afternoon and get you something decent to wear." I stopped walking. "My parents would kill me," I told her seriously. "Not if they don't know," Amy replied. "You can keep your new stuff at my house." I considered this option. I knew that mom was wrong about her rules, that she just didn't understand what it was like to be a teenager. But I also knew that she wasn't paticularly pleased when I decided to disobey her anyway. I shook my head. "I can't" Amy laughed. "OK. You don't have to decide now. Just come to the mall?" Amy's grin was bright and insistent. She was so funny that I gave in. "OK. I'll ask Mom if she will drop me off. But I'm not buying anything!" She grabbed my shoulder and squeezed. "We'll see!" Then she trotted off down the hall way. When I got to the mall, I found Amy standing in front of the music store. She was wearing a black skirt that looked like it was made out of fishnet. "Your mom lets you wear that?" I asked after sneaking up behind her and tapping her on the shoulder. "No," she said. "I changed when I got here." "Let's go down to the food court," I said. "I'm starved." We walked together towards the escalator, but Amy stopped suddenly and grabbed my arm. "What?" I asked, alarmed. "Look down there!" she sqeaked, pointing towards the railing. I walked over and peered down at the first floor of the mall. Then I broke out into a huge smile. "It's Josh!" I said. I'd had a crush on him for months. "And Adam," Amy added. Josh never went anywhere without his best friend. I leaned my chin against the railing. "They're going to the food court. Let's go talk to them." Amy shook her head. "You're not ready for a Josh-encounter yet, Meagan." I knew what was coming. "Amy...." She looked into my eyes. I could see that she'd started wearing heavy mascara. It was forming little clumps around her eyelids. "Do you want Josh to notice you or not?" I bit my lip. She had me there. "Well, yeah..." "Then come on!" she daid. "Let's find you something great to wear!" She was gone in an instant, flying down the escalator. I followed her slowly. Mabye I would get lucky and we wouldn't find anything.

Modesty Meagan

Here is a story I found in the June 07 edition of BRIO mag. It is written by Jennifer Ellis. I divided it into parts to spread it out. The Arguement: Mom's eyebrows were raised so far that I thought they might go flying off her forehead. "What's wrong?" I asked her. I'd just come into the kitchen and was hunting for breakfast. "Meagan, I'm not sure what you were thinking when you go dressed this morning, but I'm certainly not going to let you go to school like that," Mom said. I heard the suction on the refrigerator door as she opened it to get the milk. I looked down at myself. It was true that I was breaking out of my usual style. I'd chosen a skirt that hadn't fit me in a year or so but that now clung tightly around my hips. My top was form fitting, but it didn't show anything. "This is what everyone wears," I told her. "Not my daughter," Mom replied calmly. I slid into my chair and sighed. "You don't understand." She smiled at me. "I do understand. You can find something you like and dress modestly at the same time. You can still be you." "This is modest!" I exclaimed. "It's absolutely Victorian compared to what other girls wear!" She laughed. "Honey, I don't care if the other girls are wearing two piece swimsuits to algebra. You're going to dress appropriately." I crossed my arms on the kitchen table and allowed my head to drop dramatically into them. Then I looked up at her. "You wanted me to look feminine right? This is feminine." Mom handed me a muffin and sat down accross from me at the table. "Feminine means you dress like a lady. This my friend, is not feminine." I ate my breakfast in silence. I was trying to think of a good arguement, but nothing I could say sounded right. She just didn't understand what it was like to be my age. Other girls were wearin skin tight tops with neckines down to ....well, there. They had curve hugging jeans and shirts that showed off their bellies. How was I supposed to fit in with that? Especially when my mother was straight out to the Dark Ages? "Go up and change your clothes Meagan," Mom said when I was finished. I sighed and trudged up the stairs. I would have to think of another way to convince her. "Much better," she told me when I appeared in khakis and a sweater. "These pants are too big." I complained. "Those pants are perfect," Mom said. She gave me a hug. "You have a beautiful little figure, and these clothes show it off in an appropriate way." I hugged her back. It wasn't her fault that she grew up in the time of the dinosaurs. To be continued.... Next up, The Mall.
